Far away from the lake

I am in the fascinating city of New York.

Yes of course all the tourist-y stuff is on my list to do but also meeting people and discovering parts of this town that are not usually overrun by tourists.

I arrived at JFK airport on July 1st so I had a couple of days to get over my jet lag (Germany is 6 hours ahead of New York) and then I enjoyed the Macys fireworks display. I did my own video recording of it so I might just show you a little bit of what I shot.

As far as to watch the fireworks go, I just did what most people do and went to sit on the West Side Highway. People were having a picknic and stuff there until the cops made everyone stand up for safety reasons and of course to fit more people into the available space. From where we were we could see alright and we could hear a little of the live music which was featured in the score for the fireworks.

The city in itself has so many things to offer but if you are like me and love people watching (I know that sounds creepy but I mean it in a non stalker-y way!) Central Park, Grand Central or the Waldorf Astoria are places for you to visit and just sit back.

The city is expensive so a cheap way to stay is a Hostel. My first hostel was the New York Loft Hostel in Brooklyn. This Hostel is if you are comparing prizes a little on the more expensive side but it offers free daily breakfast and three times a week free BBQ at night. So it is a lot of free food. ;) It also is in a great place. It is in East Williamsburg and there is a very artsy community. (Just the outskirts of Hipster - Land!)I can only recommend it. Staff and other guests in the Hostel were very nice the rooms really clean, the most important thing, FREE WIFI!

To save some money on sightseeing it comes in handy to buy a New York Pass or a New York City Pass.

This is it for now. Gonna hit DC tomorrow and will write on the way back. Enjoy.
